When it comes to wine regions in Australia, the Great Southern region of Western Australia often flies under the radar. However, nestled in this picturesque region lies a hidden gem that wine enthusiasts should know, Willoughby Park, Penn Road Vineyard.
Undulating hills, the Kalgan River meandering through the base of the property and a large amount of iron in the soil lets this site shine bright amongst the Great Southern vineyards. Penn Road sits apart from many other vineyards from the region. The cooler climate brings slow ripening times which gives the fruit incredible stability year in and year out. Cabernet, Shiraz and Pinot are planted down the hills to soak up the sun and have the Albany sea breeze keep the fruit cool and dry. Chardonnay and Riesling are grown lower down the hill keeping the fruit full and juicy for picking.
Our fruit is predominately dry grown, resulting in lower yields but intense flavours of high quality from vines dating back to 2000.
Our fruit is picked in the cool of the early hours of the morning to ensure it remains of the highest quality through pressing and beyond.
